ABOUT THE ROLE

As the HR Manager, you’ll report directly to the Managing Director, leading all facets of HR strategy, people management, and payroll operations. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance, fostering an engaging workplace culture, and supporting business growth through smart HR initiatives.

Location:  Sydney, Australia

Full-time -  Leadership Role

Flexible Working, 2 days from home

8 month maternity leave contract

RESPONSIBILITIES +

You'll lead a talented HR team, including specialists in payroll, learning & development, operations, and systems management.

  • Developing & executing HR strategy that aligns with business goals
  • Acting as a strategic advisor to leadership on people and culture matters
  • Driving workforce planning, talent acquisition & employer branding
  • Leading DEI initiatives to build an inclusive, high-performing workplace
  • Overseeing payroll operations for Australia & New Zealand, ensuring compliance
  • Implementing policies & best practices that enhance employee experience
  • Driving learning, development, and performance management programs
  • Ensuring compliance with Fair Work regulations and Australian employment laws

REQUIREMENTS +

Our client is looking for a confident and collaborative HR Manager or Assistant Manager with a passion for driving culture and engagement.

  • 5+ years of HR management experience in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or a related field
  • Deep understanding of Australian employment law and workplace relations
  • Strategic mindset—able to balance big-picture thinking with hands-on execution
  • Exceptional communication & stakeholder management skills
  • Proven experience in talent strategy, HR policy development, and payroll oversight
  • A people-first approach—able to build trust and foster a culture of inclusion
  • Payroll experience is a must, ideally from retail but otherwise knowledge of awards
